COVID-19 and the Courts

Whilst the country seems to be heading towards social distancing and even lockdown for some sectors of society, it remains unclear whether trials and court hearings generally will be cancelled.

The current guidance from the government is as follows:

We are continuing to review the guidance issued and should anything change, we will be contacting all existing clients and post an update on our website.

We as a business intend to be fully operational albeit with all staff working remotely. This should make little difference to our ability to work with our clients and prepare our cases.

If you are concerned that you may have the virus or you fit within the category of recommendations for self-isolation and this will conflict with your ability to attend court, you need to take urgent steps to contact the court about this as usually a sick note would be required to prove that you are unfit to attend court. However, in the current unchartered territory we are in, we expect each court will take a different stance as to what evidence is required by them.

If you are bailed, failure to attend a court hearing could result in your arrest and so it is essential you attend unless otherwise instructed.
